Firmware Update 3.42 Kills PS3 Jailbreak And More

by Ernice Gilbert on September 7th, 2010, under News, Sony

Life’s ironic you know, just when things start moving in the right direction for Sony, another thorn rears its ugly head. No rest. Even so, the giant keeps pushing.

The PS3 has been the victim of many homebrew exploits recently, but Sony’s fighting them like a wife with a bottle of Raid killing off roaches.

The recently released firmware update 3.42 kills them all off.

That means those who’ve spend money buying PS Jailbreak, PS Groove, PSFreedom and any other exploits will see their cash go to waste. They won’t work.

SCEA’s John Koller confirmed the update that was issued this morning over at the US PS Blog.

It’s a mandatory install, too. So no going around it.

It’s over now. The storm is over now. Come, let’s see it together!

    nnnnnnnnnnnnot exactly.
there is a new backup manager, version 1.1 which disables FW updates and brings full FW comparability.
so in other words once the BM is out it is compat with the new FW and disables the requirement of having the latest to access PSN.
it even brings PS2 compatibility back, something people have been SCREAMING for for ages!
sony, honestly should either give this up, or start banning whole consoles to stop this.
the first would be the best though, because banning whole consoles they could get themselves into hot water, not that that has ever stopped them!

    Isn’t the latest firmware mandatory?

tis it is, but this disables the requirement of the latest FW because it tricks the ps3 into thinking the latest FW is installed.
thats why you can access PSN with the older FW installed.
    plus PS2 games!!!!!!!!!!
