Heavenly Sword 2 Is Still Possible Says Ninja Theory

by Ernice Gilbert on August 10th, 2010, under Hot, News, Ninja Theory

Proverbs, you know them: ‘never bite the hands that feed you’, ‘if you live in a glass house, don’t throw stones’ are some of the more recognizable ones.

How about this: ‘never say never’. That’s exactly Ninja Theory’s stance on a Heavenly Sword sequel.

Hope lives on, then.

In an interview with GI, Ninja Theory boss Tameem Antoniades sees hope for a sequel, “never say never”, he said.

Even though he’d love to do another HS, the boss is a realist, and admits that his team has moved on.

“But we’ve kind of moved on now. Our focus is on Enslaved, and making that successful. If we build a franchise out of it there’s a lot of potential in the action-adventure space that surprisingly isn’t that common.”

The other big revelation is that Ninja Theory had actually pursued a Heavenly Sword sequel before starting work on Enslaved.

“We did actually want to do a sequel, and we did pursue that – but we’re not a first party studio, we’re a third party studio, and we knew that over the next few years we’ve got to be releasing multi-platform games.

The game Heavenly Sword didn’t sell enough to have a confident sequel, so it would have put ourselves as a development studio in a very precarious situation.”

You can’t blame them now can you? The guys really wanted to continue with HS, but fate lead them elsewhere.

Their upcoming Uncharted style title, Enslaved: Odyssey to the West will be available on October 12th in the US and on the 8th in Europe for PS3 and Xbox 360.
