You’re man of war. It’s in you blood. Your dad served, all your brothers and even you sister works for the defense force. Your life, you’ve noticed, must take the same route, and so you’ve made up your mind from young, preparing physically and mentality for the challenge to come.
You’ve seen almost all the war movies released, and have read many books telling tails of great men who served. The gymnasium is your home apart from home and the entire village knows it. They’re afraid of you, too, and the word circulating water coolers is that you’ll probably become the next Collin Powell, or General Patreaus.
You’re not even afraid of death, too many Vietnam flicks can be blamed for the coldness you harbor in your heart. Your heart, it’s prepared for anything….
In the next two weeks you’ll be deployed to Afghanistan to face the resurgent terrorist group, the Taliban. Most men are terrified as they’ll be kissing their wives goodbye, but you, not you. There’s a smile on your face that’s so wide, some would think that you’ve just won the jackpot.
But before your take off to the battlefield, brave heart, I have some advice for you: Play these four titles, and be better prepared for the warzone. It’s brutal out there.
Battlefield: Bad Company 2
In Battlefield 2, you’re in a war between the United States and the Russian Federation, where you’ll lead a squad of soldiers fighting Russians, MEC (Middle East Coalition) troops and Legionnaire mercenaries.
What better way to prep your head shot skills than to play one of the shooters with the most awesome multiplayer out there.
In BB2 game, enjoy war at it’s finest…. Wait.
Killzone 2
On the battlefield there are no friends, no mercy and no love. It’s the roughest place to be. You need to know how harsh it really feels, and Killzone 2 will definitely demonstrate that.
The Helghast are some of the most terrible enemies in a video game that I’ve ever experienced, but you need to experience it too, if you’re going to survive in the real world.
Modern Warfare 2
There are many reasons why you should play Modern Warfare 2 before jumping on the battlefield, but the most compelling reason is because of how intense the game is. Especially at the beginning and the end. I won’t spoil it for you. But rest assured, when you’re through with that game, you’ll appreciate your loved ones and countrymen even more.
Resistance: Fall Of Man
Resistance: Fall Of Man is the number one title you must play before joining the army because of one thing: the AI.
My God, the Chimera, (your opponents) are so smart, powerful and sometimes very hard to kill that you must always be on your Ps and Qs, always watching your back, making sure your gun is fully loaded, and coordinating with your team mates find success.
All of which keep a soldier alive in the war zone.
So go ahead, do what you must. Pray, too. But make sure you’ve played those four titles before you go to Afghanistan, or anywhere for that matter, doing so might just save your life.
wow this is bad “you should play this game because if you do you know exactly how it will be on the front lines”and this “ohh and play this one because the ai is good just like the enemies you’ll be fighting” i know that you never said this but it seems like your saying playing fps titles simulate the real thing. and that every one you DO kill in real has a family and friends that WILL be effected by his death saying ohh i got 20 kills in MW2 and saying i killed 20 afghans are 2 differnt things and the person that does kill 20 afghans wont be proud to say that.
I truly hope this is satire, and even if it is, it is in incredibly bad taste.
If you are being even in the least bit serious, this is one of the most deplorably disgusting gaming articles I have ever read. To even insinuate that any game could ever prepare you for real combat is not only mind bendingly stupid, but on a level of ignorance that takes gaming culture down more than a few notches. Even the thought of some kid reading this article and taking it to heart, reading your account of war that is akin to describing a late 80′s action movie and buying all the FPS games he can get his hands on to prepare himself for the glory of combat, makes me want to vomit on my keyboard.
Satire or not, this article shows a disgusting disconnect from the real world. One of my good friends game home from Iraq with most of his head missing. His funeral was more than 200 strong, and I saw first hand the kind of damage a single death could do to so many people. To even jokingly insinuate that he may have survived had he spent his free time playing Call of Duty makes me disgusted that you and I both fall under the “gamer” label.

no game simulates anything, even GT5 the most accurate racing sim is nothing like real life racing.
if i did some of the things i can get away with in prologue on a real track i would of been dead years ago!
The point is, its a bad comparison. As a soldier, and someone who has been to war (multiple times) I can tell you that the opening paragraph alone was enough to get me heated. Video games, movies and books do not compare to what it is really like. Because reality is, people die. Friends, family. Good people. Hey, I love shooters. I play games more than I should. But, I never compare video games to the real world. You don’t lose some of the best people you’ll ever meet to a video game.

people make this comparison because thats what the games are made after, MoH is based of real war in Iraq no? by real soldiers no?
no ones saying that game will be a 100% depiction of war, because nothing can give you the feeling of being shot at with grenades and artillery fire going off left right and center!
just like racing sims, i can tell you 90% of the crap i do in GT5 would get me killed if i did it in real life on a track!
just because we call these games simulations of real life activities does not mean there 100% accurate depictions.
its a mere title separating the 2 types of genres.
theres arcade style shooters, games that are so unrealistic like bulletstorm or there are shooter sims like KZ2 or MW2.
no there not 100% accurate, probably not even 1% accurate but there much more focused to real life than arcade games they try to make the game as close to real life as they can so thats why we call them sims.
same goes for racing games.
you have your arcade styled games like burnout paradise which are not made to be as realistic as possible.
than you have your GTs which are made to be as realistic as possible, thats why we call them simulations again that does not mean there 100% accurate to real life!
nothing can make you feel how you would in that situation, like if your flying a sim with a plane with failed engines is that going to make you feel how you would if you really were flying a plane with failed engines?
