It just won’t stop. With revelations of Sony scandalous security breach now making worldwide headlines, you’d think we’d seen enough drama in 24hrs, but now Microsoft’s warning Xbox Live users of “fishing” attempts on secure data while gamers play Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

After Airport Massacre, Russian Media Points To Modern Warfare 2

After I saw the news yesterday that the busiest airport in Russia was bombed by terrorists, leaving 35 people dead in its wake and 180 more injured, I knew the media would draw comparisons between the incident and Infinity Ward’s shoot.

I did not, however, expect them to jump on the situation so quickly.

Robert Bowling, Infinity Ward’s communications head told his audience that the developer just came out of what he saw as a successful meeting, with the studio’s coders having find ways to effectively bar hackers from their game, and reinstate to players the stats they lost.

His comments past the break.

Black Ops Won’t Surpass Modern Warfare In Sales Because Of ‘Hypercritical, [And] Bitter’ Media

by Ernice Gilbert on October 27th, 2010, under Activision, Hot, News, Treyarch

If you were to ask Activision how good it thinks Call of Duty: Black Ops will sell, the publishing mammoth would utter big boasts. It would claim the aforesaid game would outdo Modern Warfare 2 to become the best selling shooter of all time, and would most likely cite the latest pre-order numbers from leading retailer, GameStop to support its claim.

But that’s Activision, what do analysts have to say about the situation? Some support Activision’s claim but not Wedbush Morgan Securities analyst Michael Pachter; he thinks the game will sell great but it won’t surpass MW2 in sales because the games press will look for ways to compare it to that other game, and will score it lower because it’s not a carbon copy and also because, well, it’s not Infinity Ward developing it but Treyarch.

Xbox Live Activity For The Week Of September 13th Shows MW2′s Enduring Appeal

by Ernice Gilbert on September 24th, 2010, under Microsoft, News

Yes, we know the question you’re asking in your mind right now is: ‘why isn’t Halo: Reach number one?’ Don’t worry, it’ll be head honcho next week. The only reason said game didn’t take the top spot is because it was only out for a portion of the reporting week.

Still, it’s nothing small to see Modern Warfare 2, after being out for so long, yet again topping the charts. The list, posted by Xbox frontman Major Nelson, is past the break.

Modern Warfare 2 Devs Comment On Review Scores

by Ernice Gilbert on August 14th, 2010, under EA, Hot, News, Respawn Entertainment

It’s a known fact: not many reviewers review an entire game before casting their final judgment on it with a low, average, or high score. Many cite having too many games to look at for not going through the full thing before putting up the review, and others simply think that after they’ve played up to a certain point, they usually have a good idea on how it’ll turn out.

All solid points, and while I thoroughly play all the games I review, I’m not particularly upset with those who don’t.

Respawn Entertainment sees the situation different. In fact, one of the newly formed studio’s head, Vince Zampella, feels there’s “nothing more frustrating” than games journalists who review games without completing them.

Infinity Ward Will “Rise From The Ashes” Says Activision

Modern Warfare 2 developer, Infinity Ward has been to hell and back recently. The studio lost most of its great talent and was left in shambles, literally.

Will it rise again? Activison’s sure it will, but according to the publisher, they’ve learned a lesson: “Let Infinity Ward be Infinity Ward”.

Homefront Will Be “Genre Competitive” But Not “Modern Warfare 2″ Successful Says THQ

by Ernice Gilbert on August 9th, 2010, under Hot, News, THQ

How does one measure the success of a game? Is it by how many copies it sells, or is it based on the game itself being a stellar effort?

I think it’s a combination of both, to I think.

Activision Is Going Down, And Black Ops Can’t Help Them Says Pachter

by Ernice Gilbert on August 9th, 2010, under Activision, Hot, News

Activision relies heavily on a few major franchises. The most recognizable is Call of Duty, which sees a game release every year, switching development between Infinity Ward and Treyarch. Wedbush Morgan Securities analyst, Michael Pachter, believes it’s bad business practice by Activsion to rely too heavily on just a few brands, therefore, according to him, they’re slipping, and not even Black Ops will be able to help.

Top Four Shooters To Play Before You Join The Army

You’re man of war. It’s in you blood. Your dad served, all your brothers and even you sister works for the defense force. Your life, you’ve noticed, must take the same route, and so you’ve made up your mind from young, preparing physically and mentality for the challenge to come.

For Pachter, Multiplayer Subscription Is Not If But When

I’m sure you can remember Wedbush Morgan Securities analyst, Michael Pachter’s statement recently, after the NPD sales report showed that the gaming industry experienced more declines for the month of June when he and others like himself predicted growth.

These Four Story Twists Threw Me Off Completely

You’ve been a fan of a certain series for a very long time. You know the game, you think, better than most. In fact, you’re so well versed with the stories and plots of the franchise, that you can even tell where the developer will take the game next.

Or that’s what you thought. Because there are some titles that have drifted so far away from their original storyline that I sometimes wonder ‘what in the world were the writers thinking’. I mean, the game, in the beginning, middle, or at the end of it, suddenly throws at you a curve ball that you just never saw coming, and sometimes it doesn’t even make sense.

Here’s what we think are the biggest throw offs in gaming history. We count down from five.
