December was an extremely good month for not only console manufacturers, but for publishers as well, and in the midst of Super Mario Bros. Wii being the best selling game in December, and Madden NFL 10 selling 1.5 million units across all platforms, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 made history.
“The best selling game of the month was Super Mario Bros. Wii, which also captures the third spot on the annual top 10 list for 2009,” Anita Frazier of the NPD group said.
“Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has become the fourth best selling game of all time. In fact, three of the top ten games of all time are Call of Duty games.”
It’s good to see the franchise make history, talk what you will about the games but they have done extremely well for Infinity and Activision and the reason for that success is simple: It’s an awesome franchise.

I don’t know if this should be applauded or sreamed about. The fact they released the game with so many bugs/glitches, and it’s selling so many copies makes me wonder how influential reviews and tv ads are for games.
Good question coffee, to me it’s an indication of how effective reviews and ads are. Most publication gave MW2 decent scores…
I see this as sad evidence that supports the idea that gaming is becoming casualized.
i agree coffee
