Sad day for the industry.
Hiroshi Yamauchi, Nintendo president from 1949 to 2002, and the man who gave precidency to Satoru Iwata, passed away today at the age of 85 (Japanese Nikkei reports).
Yamauchi once was the richest man in Japan, and own Seattle’s MLB team, the Mariners, but never even attended a game.
What he’s more famous for, though, is the way he took Nintendo from a playing card game and children’s toys company and turned it into the name synonymous with gaming on many fronts.
Suffering from pneumonia, Yamauchi passed away in a Kyoto hospital.
Whatever you do, mister Yamauchi, know you will be sorely missed, and the industry is missing a piece of its puzzle now.
