Retail Very Essential For Next Generation Consoles, Sony Says

Retails in the games space will be huge players when the next batch of consoles roll out, SCE UK managing director Fergal Gara has said, adding that because of disruptive changes we’ve seen in the industry forcing some retailers to shut their doors, readjusting must occur, however the retail model is still relevant and committed participation from chains will be paramount to sustain said model.

“Coming down off that 2008 peak has been a steep ride for many and has involved fallout on many levels, not least of all retail,” Gara told MCV.

“So what we’re seeing is not really a surprise, a bit of a readjustment if you like and it isn’t just happening to the specialists on the High Street. There is a bit of a reappraisal around space and the commitment from other retailers.

We’d love to see as many of those retailers as possible maintain their interest in servicing the space because clearly down the road many of us are going to be doing our best to give another injection into the market whenever the next cycle starts.”

PS4 and Xbox Infinity are expected late next year.

I honestly feel like the so called Fall of Console gaming can be attributed to the $60 price tag for games and the casual crowd taking their money elsewhere. Just my opinion.

its not helping but its not the only thing that has really hurt the industry.
the 60 bucks would be fine if that gave you access to everything!
now you have to pay extra for DLC, extra for features that should be free cough COD eliete and BF premium.
than the recession certainly has not helped the situation.
mobile gaming is flourishing because its quality has gone through the roof!
where console gaming if anything has gone backwards!
yea its cheap but thats not really helping it much because the games are short and basic!
MC3 for example one of the best mobile games out there!
has a campaign just as long as COD, so does that mean its worth the same amount of money?
    of course not!
it does not have the production values of console games!
yea mobile games are cheap, but thats because they are cheap!
console game prices should stay where they are, its the stupid BS DLC and yearly subscriptions, not to mention this online pass BS!
    that needs the das boot!
price of accessories and essentials could use a price drop too.
problem with console gaming is its considered a luxury, something most dont have ATM!
mobile gaming you need a phone something everyone has and is cheap!
a net connection something that everyone has and is cheap!
and a form of online payment something everyone has!
console gaming you need a TV, not something everyone has and its certainly not cheap!
plus all the accessories, like a USB cable to charge the controllers, the controllers themselves, a HDMI cable ect ect.
where console gaming needs a price drop is in the requirements.
make consoles cheaper, make accessories cheaper and you will see allot more people jumping aboard!
