Analysts Michael J. Olson and Andrew D. Connor at Piper Jaffray aren’t too excited about the next batch of consoles, the analysts have predicted sales of PS4 will only manage half of what PS3 sold at launch, likewise, Xbox 720 will only manage 55 percent of the Xbox 360′s launch sales.
“Unfortunately, we do not expect a console refresh to fully offset the secular declines in console gaming,” said the firm. “We believe console gaming will continue to be a time-share donor to social networks, mobile games and tablets. We, therefore, favor companies with increasing exposure to social/mobile gaming, including Zynga and EA.”

in this economy i’d kinda expect them not to sell as much.
Hmm, you think so? We’ll have to wait and see, because if these next gen systems are truly amazing, they have the potential to perform better than PS3 and 360. But that’s if they’re impressive enough.
performance isn’t a issue for me, the only thing i care about is the games. if a system doesn’t have games that i want then i just won’t buy it period.
I disagree with these people.
oh hogwash!
drives me nuts when people say this, the whole freaking industry is not turning into freaking facebook!
next gen systems should do allot better on launch then their predecessors did simply because id like to think manufactures have learned their lesson and release them cheap, and with heaps of support.
360 and ps3 struggled on launch because of their high price points and lack of software, something that should hopefully change upon release.
no freaking way in hell the ps4 is going to be 1000 AUD like the ps3 was on launch!
i can understand why hand held consoles would take a huge hit, simply because of smart phones, but i cant see the same fate for ps4 and xbox 720. i want to play games in surround sound, in 3d and on a 50inch tv screen. Tablets and even pc gaming cant offer this
Agreed with Nick, Lingling and Fox, there. Next gen should perform just as well…even better.
correction PC gaming can.
handhelds will be the same.
they can and always will offer things mobiles and tablets cant.
they would definetly sell worse because the economy is not what it was 6 years ago.
but the prices are not going to be what they were 6 years ago either so they should cancel each other out.
