The Verge is reporting that a judge from the US International Trade Commission has issued a preliminary ruling that finds Microsoft’s Xbox 360 infringes on five of Motorola’s patents. This means if Microsoft loses in court when it presents its arguments to a full panel of ITC judges later this year, the firm will have to seek proper licenses for the technologies, most of which relate to H.264 video encoding, or have the console banned in the U.S.
We doubt the latter will happen, however, as Xbox 360 is one of Microsoft’s most valued assets.

I don’t think that it will cause the ban of xbox 360, but MS will have to start paying a lot for licensing rights.
amazing how companies these days think there above laws.
i was just watching a report on the NSW police pirating highly confidential security software.
turns out they paid for 35000 licenses and have created over double that to use across multiple areas and departments.
and now the software manufactures trying to take them to court there saying oh the contract does not apply any more because it expired in 2003 so we can mass produce as many copies as we want!
and how much you want to bet they will get away with it?
if you or i did it we would be locked away and the key thrown away, but a government department well……………
just goes to show theres NOTHING a briefcase cant fix!
