Thirsty Conversations: A Question From DICE Senior Gameplay Designer

battlefield3

“If you would get 1 wish and could tweak 1 thing about BF3′ gameplay, what would it be?” Let’s talk. Do it here: The Official Games Thirst Battlefield.

As you know Senior Gameplay Designer, Alan Kertz is no longer with the Battlefield team. He’s left for work on another project within DICE, leaving Battlefield 3′s future in the hands of Gameplay Designers Gustav Halling and Tim Kjell.

Make it so mines only damage your vehicle and set your engine on fire, not blow you up and 3 of your buds instantly.

Ha! Don’t even get me started on Battlefield 3! First of all, get rid of the stupid tactical lights! Makes no sense – you don’t see this kind of rubbish in real war. Second, how the crap can a soldier run incessantly without ever getting tired? Tweak that. Also, Smoge, leave my landmines alone! LOL. These tanks are too dangerous! If it wasn’t so, you’d have been sitting in tanks taking over the entire game.

Sometimes I can’t see the enemy! Where. Is. He. BOOM I’m shot dead – and he was standing right next to me but my radar failed to show me. More vehicles please? I hate running these long lengths.

    And that’s just for starters.

If they made it where you get tired from running, you would never get to the fight, and soldiers can sprint longer than 10 seconds without getting tired like in cod. Also, the tactical light will blind you up close, and they do use them in real war. It is not used as an open field tactic, but they do use them for breach and search, close area type situations and trust me, they will blind you like they do in the game because I use to mess around with my dad’s light. It is why it is called a tactical light. Also the radar only shows enemies when they perform an action such as firing. The only thing I would change is the rpg power. They made them weaker after the game released and thus made the vehicles more powerful. One game, it took nearly 4 rpg’s to take this tank out and that is to many. Also, the engineer when fixing vehicles is to powerful at times. Again, me and 3 people where shooting a tank with rpg’s and this 1 guy was fixing faster than us 4 could blow it up and that is ridiculous.

@Ernice yes but the land mine are to unbalanses. They should disable the vehicle and render it useless, giving you just enough time to bale out. You dont know how meny times (alot) I’ve jumped in a teammates tank then he drives over a land mine nothing I can do and some noob at the back of the map gets a quad kill because the idiot driver isn’t looking where he is going! On top of that you get the other type of land mine noob that puts a mine 2 yards in front of a vehicle that I span in, I press R2 and blow up! Man up noob! Then befor I respon I have to watch him place another one and camp behind a rock till he get his next set of kills. MAN UP NOOB!

@Smoge: “MAN UP NOOB!” I like that. LOL

But you know, sometimes it’s like 4 mines in one spot, that’s why the tank blows up. One mine cannot blow up a tank. It’ll render it useless, however. @Josh: I agree with the RPG/Tank point. It should blow up at least with two strikes.

Would be nice to see the tank react to where you hit it, eg 1 rpg at the left track slows it at makes it difficult to stear, take both the track out and you get the disable bonus straight away. Or have it so you can disable the tanks cannon so that it can only use it’s machine gun, also would be cool if you could disable the independent rotation of the top half making it more difficult to aim, then when there is someone repairing it they cant repair the cannon, so that you can repair the tank but you can’t use the main cannon and are forced to ever go on using the machine gun or… MAN UP AND STOP CAMPING IN THE TANK THE WHOLE GAME NOOB!

Stop camping the darn tanks, NOOBS! LOL. You have some great points there, though. Thoughtful stuff.
