Games Thirst – Amazing Life
As of recent, all that’s been coming at us are rumors about the next generation of consoles, namely PS4 and the next Xbox. But an oddball has been thrown into the mill, one from a representative of cloud gaming company Gaikai, claiming for either Microsoft or Sony, there will be no next-gen, adding that the announcement will be made at E3, and that it’ll be the real news there. Bold prediction, but is if actually feasible?
Not too long ago, in fact just yesterday we reported on what Sony chairman Kazuo Hirai said at CES concerning PS4. He said Sony’s not contemplating PS4 and there won’t be any announcements at E3 concerning it, adding that their focus is dead-set on PS3. Could Sony be bowing out after PS3′s done its time? Not likely, not after Hirai said PlayStation will lead Sony back to profitability.
So we’re left with Microsoft since Nintendo’s Wii U will be released late this year. What is MS up to? The firm’s been pursuing cloud technology and has been on the forefront of it, more so than any of its console competitors, and will be better suited to introduce an all cloud, no hard copy Xbox. Might this be the big surprise at E3? MS releasing a cloud-based console, neglecting the hard copy format altogether? That too, is unlikely.
Gaikai is pulling a publicity stunt with its latest controversial statement, nonetheless the prospect of there not being an eighth generation of consoles is a good topic to discuss.
