As promised, Game Informer’s sent live its first cover story for 2012, unveiling XCOM: Enemy Unknown – a game that’s to deliver the same strategic gameplay fans have come to love, and at the same time introducing a new story and other gameplay elements for newcomers to the franchise.
Enemy Unknown, not to be mistaken for 2K Marine’s FPS title that’s due a release in Take Two’s fiscal year 2013, is much more old school XCOM being developed by Firaxis Studios, the firm responsible for Civilization.
“It’s been a dream of ours to recreate X-COM with our unique creative vision. We’re huge fans of the original game and it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity to re-envision a game that is as beloved as X-COM,” said Firaxis boss Steve Martin.
“We were careful to keep XCOM: Enemy Unknown true to the elements that made X-COM such a revered game while delivering an entirely new story and gameplay experience for both die-hard X-COM fans and newcomers to the franchise.”
The game’s due a release this fall for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC. Game Informer says it’ll have more features on the game soon, so stay tuned.
