For Japan Retailers, PS Vita’s Too Expensive

One Japanese retailer has slashed the price of the 3G version of PS Vita by a staggering 20 percent in light of the console’s weak second-week sales performance in the country.

In its first week on sale, PS Vita performed exceptionally well, selling 321,000 units, but the following week saw a stark drop in sales to 72,479 units, 400,000 less than 3DS managed the same week.

The problem here seems to be the 3G model, selling for Â¥29,980, while the WiFi version costs Â¥24,980. However following the poor performance by the former model, retailers have cut the console’s price down to Â¥24,999, just Â¥19 more expensive than the Wi-Fi version.

Nintendo suffered the same fate and was forced to cut the 3DS’s price just six months after it was released. It seems as if Sony must follow the same route if PS Vita’s to be a hit. Remember the media had already predicted the death of 3DS – but the price cut changed all that.

i dont think its because of the price difference.
more so the limitations on what you can use the 3G for.
only reason i would buy the 3G version would be so i could download games while im out, but you cant because as every other device this has a 20MB limit.
its just stupid, why have a 20MB limit on a 3 GB plan?
im paying 70 bucks a month for my iphone, i get 2GBs of download usage with that!
most ive ever used is 500MBs!
so why am i paying for 2GBs and only getting 500MBs?
thats the problem with 3G they charge you a arm and a leg, and as if thats not bad enough they tell you what you can and cant use it on!

    Yeah, that’s unwise.

another thing i was really disappointed about the vita is the camera on it is shit!
IGN did a comparison shot today, and suffice to say a few pics i took at my cuzs 30th last week turned out even worse!
disappointing, i mean come on $ony how can a 2012 device have a worse picture quality then the iphone 3G which was released 4 years ago!
the vitas been a massive disappointment!
$on devices always release and feel ahead of their time!
vita though, it feels not ahead of its time, not of its time, but outdated!
really low res camera, 3G instead of 4G, no inbuilt memory, B instead of N compatibility, and to top it of ridiculously expensive!
thats why its not selling well, its outdated and ridiculously expensive!
oh boy how $ony has fallen in the past 6 years!
