5 Things To Do With The PS3 While Playstation Network Is Undergoing “Maintenance”

by Dean Kent on April 22nd, 2011, under Humour, Playstation network, PS3

With the Playstation Network down, we all thought it would be a good idea to point out the other uses for the little black paper weight..Ahem.. I mean Playstation 3.

NO 1: Play Single player.

If like me, you have come accustomed to shooting the face off “kelvinhugsandstuff1979” then this might horrify you. I mean did you even know Killzone 3 had a mode where there was only you playing? Get this; the other guys are walking talking vapid dummies. Yep! Just like Hollywood actors.

They help you with all the shooting and stuff, in what I am told is a story mode?

To be honest it is a bit “out there” to me, but some might like it.

No 2: Offline Multiplayer
Do you remember the other people who live with you?

Yes you do.

Now Granny might not know the offside rule, but that does not mean she cannot ride her stair lift upstairs and put in a session on FIFA 11. This might involve a trade of some kind, maybe a boiled sweet or a foot rub to ease her bunions. Not Filling that, the promise to visit more than once a year. (Hey, you don’t have to mean it! They just have to think you do.)

NO 3: Music.
The hard drive isn’t just for gigantic game installs you know. Just push the analogue stick left on the XMB and hey, presto music!

Whack the Surround sound on full blast and get down to the soulful sounds of The village people.

Mariah Carey then?

Really some people have no culture.

NO 4: Films.
Ahhh..the Bluray. Such clear, crisp picture quality mixed with the amazing surround sound, and with playback of this quality, why would you even use your beloved Playstation 3 for such a crude past time as online gaming?

Xbox may have its “Online service” but we know who the real winners are don’t we?

Come on get the family together and huddle round the TV, and let that marvellous black box blow you away when you pop your brand new copy of Mama Mia into the Bluray drive.

No 5: Internet.
Even though the Playstation Network is down, it does not mean you cannot use the biggest technological marvel of the modern world. The internet conations everything from medical science to videos of people shoving each other in rivers.

With such vast wealth of information at your fingertips, you will wonder why the only thing you seem to look at are animals doing circus tricks on Youtube.

As you can see there is much to do on your Playstation while the network is down.

Just for the record, the section on films is meant to be a joke. Oh, it will play films extremely well but Mama Mia might make you give up on films/life in general and is not recommended to make you feel better.

Haha brilliant article Dean. So there I guess the playstation does have more functions than online multiplayer (that story time mode thingy you mentioned sounds fascinating) .

Although for me, number 1 thing to do while PSN is down. Play xbox! lol

My recommendation is to grab the blu-ray box set of Doctor Who Series 5, and have a great Doctor Who marathon to celebrate the new series starting tomorrow.

I still watch netflix. It asks you to log in a couple times but if you just press cancel it just stop asking. So there’s another one.
