March will see a 3DS launch in the US, but the thing’s already selling out all over Japan, with some retail outlets reporting lines with 700 plus consumers.
The handheld launched with many games, including: Pro Evolution Soccer 3DS, Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition, Samurai Warriors: Chronicles, Bust-a-Move Universe, Nintendogs + Cats, Ridge Racer 3D, Combat of Giants: Dinosaurs 3D, and Professor Layton and the Mask of Miracle, per vg247.
Although the lines were long and the machine started out with a bang, analysts are being cautious, with David Gibson, head of equity research at Macquarie Securities in Tokyo telling Reuters: “Nintendo’s competitive advantage is that they develop both hardware and software. I don’t think you will see a change to Nintendo strategy longer term, but because of smartphones they will not see the same growth they once had.”
Video of 3DS’ Launch per Kotaku:
As for Nintendo, it expects to sell 4 million 3DS units in the five weeks to March 31st. Other analysts see the 3DS selling out even the DS, a system that’s sold 145 million units worldwide as of December last year, but that would rest on the back of a few circumstances.
“Of course it will be difficult to sell more than the DS in Japan or other developed countries,” said analyst Shun Tanaka of SMBC Friend Research Center.
“But if they market it in regions like South America and Asia, it may eventually sell even more than the DS.”
The console launched in Japan for ¥25,000, will launch in the U.S. for $249.99 on March 27th, Australia gets it for U$349.95 on March 31st, and Europe for €250 on the 25th of the same month.
Do you plan on buying one?

ninty just dont care if their fans start hurling breaky, though will be interesting to see how long the sales last till people start realizing this.
There’s even a Facebook page to boycott the 3DS… funny stuff.
i dont blame them.
so irresponsible for ninty to release this.
its like releasing a car with known faulty brakes.

wheres dignity gone?
i cant understand how companies these days can be so care free.

It’s all business. It’s been this way this capitalism.

its got nothing to do with business, its all down to selfishness!
