German Hacker Sued For €1 million By Sony, Says He Won’t Stop

German authorities raided a hacker’s home after being suspected of illegal activities, and we’ve now learnt that Sony’s suing the same guy to the tune of €1 million for tempering with the PS3. The hacker, however, stands defiant, incriminating himself even further by releasing all sorts of hacking material for PS3 after the fact, and valiantly saying, and I quote verbatim: “SONY you failed again, you took my equipment but my mind is still free and you canot (sic) control it.”

Alexander Egorenkov, also known as Graf_chokolo in the hacking community, has said the reason he won’t stop what he’s doing is because Sony took out linux from PS3, and they’d have to “kill” him to stop him.

Here’s his take on the matter:

The SONY’s laywer asked me why I’m doing what I’m doing, because of my hatred for SONY? He cannot understand why I’m doing it, because he is paid for what he does. I’m not. I don’t hold a grudge against SONY even now Hatred clouds your mind, keeps you from more important things. I have a better use for my mind and knowledge.

So, SONY you failed again, you took my equipment but my mind is still free and you canot (sic) control it. You failed again. They are just tools, I can get new ones and will continue my HV reversing and bringing back PS3 Linux which you took from us. If you want me to stop then you should just kill me because I cannot live without programming, HV and Linux kernel hacking You know who am I and where I live, so come and get me!!!

As for Sony, it’s continuing its holy war with no end in sight. Still, we hope this all ends soon.

sony could not be making a bigger pill out of this!
instead of being sore looser why cant they be like M$ and throw out a challenge?
god, there worse then a 6 year old after their mother refused to buy them a toy!

  • TRH

Im in complete agreement with nick. It was a good move by sony when they sued Geohot cuz in another way of looking, they were protecting the industry in the long run by scaring off some hackers.

But they should have just left it after winning the case (if they do) against geohot, charge him not TOO much money cuz obviously the guy cant afford it. This is because WINNING is the important thing here (as it sends the message), not milking Geo off all his money cuz frankly it wont compensate them for crap.

These hackers are like a mound of clay.
Its good when you know how to properly handle a mound of clay in your hands; but the tighter you clench your fists, the more and more clay slips out from in between your fingers.

They got enraged by the removal of linux, thus they started their campaign. When sony really pulled the trigger on Geo, they probably DID get scared off, but now that Sony’s pushing it, their gonna try to take revenge and bring the hammer down on Sony.

Upto one point, this case was protecting the future of the industry, but now, its just doing the exact opposite. Sony is not only losing gamers and customers through this, they are also forming very powerful enemies.

Nicks right, M$ are SOO much more chilled than they are (although M$ sucks out your money – bad). Like M$ and Google, instead of painting a bullseye on the backs of their future consoles, Sony should instead utilize these talented minds to aid their future systems. That would be the smart thing to do.

Sorry for the long post, just had to let it out :)

Well we’re glad you finally decided to sign up, TRH! And I agree with the point of Sony taking this a tad too far. I was also intrigued when you said Sony’s creating for itself very powerful enemies. I was intrigued, because, to be honest, you’re right. Again, thanks for signing up! We hope to see your thoughts on other threads!

I wouldn’t really call MS chilled because they have banned over 100,000 consoles.

  • http://www.gamesthirst.com Ernice Gilbert

Good point, Josh. Also, one of the reasons I believe Sony’s so hard on hackers is because of the grim Xbox 360 pirate stats… Almost two million people pirated the game on Xbox 360… That’s over $60 million in lost sales. On PS3, (and this stat was given before the hack) none. Sony wants to keep things that.

  • Joshua Tompkins

They should have only gone after George because he is the one that released everything to the world, and maked things bad for Sony. Now the other hackers, who just say that they hacked the console and staying quiet, should just be left alone and Sony should not poke the fire.

  • http://www.gamesthirst.com Ernice Gilbert

    Exactly.

if your going after geo you have to go after graf too.
geo released the console keys, but fraf, well hes threatening to release the PSN keys.
as i said the other day if he releases those sonys up shit creek without a paddle!
they should not of sued geo they should of just patched the ps3, do what rumors are saying there doing and release a new “hack proof” system.
the biggest problem with this is sony are trying to deny their fans THERE GOD GIVEN RIGHTS!
the LG debacle too another case in point, sony think there god, they think they can do whatever the hell they want!
they think they can remove features, force you to do things you dont want to and as long as they put it in the T&Cs its all fair game.
    sorry its not!
i hope the LG thing gets blown over because if the ps3 really does get banned, well then you can kiss all the amazing games goodbye.
but as a principal, to teach the bully a lesson i hope LG wipes the floor with them!
bust their ego down, and teach them NO ONE IS ABOVE THE LAW!

  • Joshua Tompkins

lol, this is lg’s reaction to sony suing them. It happens all the time, and quit ragging on Sony. Oh, and if they put something in the T&C and you buy the product, that is a legally binding contract that you have with Sony, and they can do anything as long as it falls within the contract.

  • nick

no its the other way around the TOC you have to agree to before you upgrade the FW.
so its either you accept to us removing features you paid for, or the system you paid for looses another feature you also paid for.
thats why sony are getting sued they removed linux and if you want to keep it you loose the ability to play games online which is another advertised feature.
sonys defense is so pathetic, they say we had no idea people intended to continue using the features they paid for.
    WHAT!?
nah, i just bought the system so i can use it for 2 months, then chuck it in the bin.
    what a pathetic excuse!
