Ah Nick, you’re not going to be happy about this. According to Mortal Kombat developer Netherrealms, the lastest sequel will not see a release in Australia due to rating barriers.
“The highly anticipated videogame Mortal Kombat, published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment (WBIE) in Australia, has been refused classification by the Australian Classification Board and will not release in Australia,” wrote IGN, citing an anonymous source.
“We are extremely disappointed that Mortal Kombat, one of the world’s oldest and most successful video games franchises, will not be available to mature Australian gamers.
WBIE would not market mature content where it is not appropriate for the audience. We understand that not all content is for every audience, but there is an audience for mature gaming content and it would make more sense to have the R18+ classification in Australia.
As a member of the iGEA, WBIE is reviewing all options available at this time.”
The ACB might have taken offense to some of what it saw in the game’s release trailer. We’ve posted it below:
This is not the first time Australia’s banned a game, just last year Alien vs Predator was refused a release there, and Valve had to heavily sensor Left 4 Dead 2 in order to get the go-ahead.
AVP got released, it was banned then unbanned same thing happened to F.E.A.R 2.

heres what i cant understand, GOW3, splatterhouse, dantes inferno, AVP, L4D, dead rising, some of the most goriest games ever released are ok for 15 year olds to play but this is not?

more than likely, this game will be unbanned considering how big the franchise. ive seen alot of Australians expressing their opinions about this maybe australia will finally get like a new rating system for more adult games that way australian gamers wont have to worry about good games getting banned
True. The rating system there is also skewed…. Some of the most gore-filled stuff gets past but others don’t.

dont really care, but what pisses me off is i wanted to get the kollectors edition and for some reason only the standard editions available online.
