Gearbox Software Now Owner Of Duke Nukem IP, Says Demo Is Important – The Full Quencher

After making the rounds, first being owned by 3D Realms, then going underground and eventually becoming legend, the game finally received a well deserved, grand announcement at PAX over the weekend, Duke Nukem now has a new home.

Gearbox Software are now the new owners of the Intellectual Property (IP). CEO Randy Pitchford is an ex-3D Realms employee, he said, “I didn’t buy it from them; they sold it to me.”

The folks at Gearbox are not novices either, the developer’s produced Borderlands, the Brothers in Arms franchise, and multiple Half-Life-related titles, including the ubiquitous Counter Strike.

The Quencher Continues:

Although Gearbox’s confident Duke Nukem will become a thriving franchise, the studio wants to make sure gamers get hands on time with the demo before the game itself hits.

CEO Randy Pitchford said “I think that is an important thing to do”.

“Now that the cat’s out of the bag we can actually make those plans. Now we can get with retailers and figure out the launch window, and figure out demo timing, and work with the first-parties on that.”

Adding: “We weren’t able to do that until this point, because if we did we risked damaging it even further.”

Here’s the press release:
