EA: Going Multiplatform Is A “Risk” For Insomniac

A few months ago, big news hit the internet concerning legendary developer Insomniac Games. The studio had just signed a deal with EA Partners to develop an Epic that would be released on the PS3 and Xbox 360, with EA doing the founding and publishing.

Although boss of EA Partners David DeMartini sees this as a good thing, the exec concluded Insomniac Games’ still taking a “risk”.

Speaking about the deal, he said:

“With Insomniac, they’ve been working with Sony for so long so successfully – great partnership,” he admitted to Eurogamer. “What was most rewarding was to be able to work with Ted [Price]. They were open to the idea of multiplatform development. To be able to convince them, if you will, or offer them an opportunity that was so compelling that they would decide to break out of the mould they’ve operated under for a long time,”

He added: “it’s a risk for them.”

A risk indeed, but I’m sure Insomniac calculated properly before venturing in such an unstable direction. And with titles like Resistance, Ratchet And Clank, Spyro the Dragon etc., under its belt, certainly the new title, whatever it is, will thrive.

Yeah, I am fine with them going multi-platform. They are a great company, and I trust any decision they make.

ted is a smart man, you dont survive in this industry for 20+ years making poor decisions.
risk taking is what moves the industry forward, look at heavy rain that was probably the biggest risk for the industry but if it was not taken we would be without one of the industries best games!

i cant wait to see what the EAP game is, just what genre it will be.
i doubt it will be a shooter, id guess at a platformer.
i wish it would be a horror game, but i seriously doubt that will happen EA already have DS2 and the industry does not have much desire for horror lately.
    would be cool though!
