A few months ago, big news hit the internet concerning legendary developer Insomniac Games. The studio had just signed a deal with EA Partners to develop an Epic that would be released on the PS3 and Xbox 360, with EA doing the founding and publishing.

Although boss of EA Partners David DeMartini sees this as a good thing, the exec concluded Insomniac Games’ still taking a “risk”.

Head of Sony Worldwide Studios, Shuhei Yoshida, has been at Sony all his life. Insomniac Games have been with Sony for most of the studio’s existence also. It was Yoshida who “personally was the producer in Japan for Spyro the Dragon and Rachet & Clank.” So when he heard, way back in 2008, that the developer wanted to part ways so they could reach a wider audience, it saddened him.

For EA, Insomniac Deal Is The Best Ever, Will Broaden The Studio’s Reach

EA has told CVG that it’s confident the Insomniac’s first multiplatform title will equal the success the developer has experienced with its PS3 exclusive releases.

EA Partners head David DeMartini said with the new partnership between the two, “twice as many gamers” will have the chance to experience Insomniac’s work.

At E3 there are always surprises, and ever since Microsoft entered the game things have gotten even more intriguing. For the past three E3s or so, the software giant has been nabbing titles that were once exclusive to Sony’s PlayStation platform from all angles and genres.

From GTA 4 to Final Fantasy XIII, Microsoft has made E3 an exciting place again. But what’s left to steal? And will Sony flip the script on Microsoft this time around? We don’t know for sure, but the much respected and lauded Wedbush Morgan Securities analyst, Michael Pachter is “hoping” for fireworks this year. Whether it’s Epic Games or even Insomniac Games, at E3 something big should, and will happen.

Ratchet & Clank developer, Insomniac Games, might be heading the way of the Xbox 360, if a “trusted” IGN source is to be believed.

Said source spoke to the website at GDC under the condition of anonymity.
