For Namco Bandai, E3 and GamesCom Are A Bit Much, Industry Must “Choose”

by Ernice Gilbert on June 3rd, 2010, under E3, News

So which will it be, E3 or GamesCom? I’m personally routing for E3 since, well, I’m in the US! But for the rest of our beloved users who live in parts of the world closer to Cologne Germany, they’d rather it be in the latter location. Can’t blame ya.

Well according to Namco Bandai Partners VP Oliver Comte., that’s a decision which must be made soon. The both of them are just too expensive.

Speaking with CVG during the firm’s recent Level Up event in Barcelona three weeks ago, he voiced his concerns:

“I really wonder how E3 is going to be this year because we seem to have come back on track,” Conte said, referring to last year’s revival of the event in its old form before the 2007 change, back when the show was a invite-only event.

“I wonder if this year it will be E3 like three or four years ago – a very big event. This is how I feel.”

“If this is a case then it’s clear that the industry will have to choose between E3 and GamesCom, because two events within three months that cost a lot of money for all of the publishers will be too much.”

He did say that due to E3 being in the US which is now the biggest market in the gaming industry, some publishers may ignore the German event.

E3 commences in less than two weeks.

ahh maybe someone needs to tell them you need to spend money to make money!
yeah its expensive and awkward to get new builds of your game ready to show the press but your getting advertisement for peeks sake!
would you rather skip all the events and rely on posters and TV commercials to get your game out there?
wish i could go to E3, a shame we dont have any game conferences here even though QLD is flooded with developers.
hell R*s biggest studio is based not even 20 minutes from my house!!!
a old friend of mine now works there on LA Noire.
