Sony Sells One Million PS4s in 24hrs

A new record for the industry.

Sony has announced that it’s sold through over 1 million PS4 consoles in the United States in just 24hrs, a new record for the games industry, and a slap in the face to analysts incessantly predicting the end of console gaming as we know it. These numbers prove them wrong in a big way and gamers around the world should celebrate Sony’s success. Even PS2, the most successful console ever made, didn’t see such healthy launch numbers.

“PS4 has sold through over 1 million units within 24 hours of the launch in North America,” said Sony’s Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida via twitter.

Adam Boyes, Sony’s Vice President of publisher and developer relations, added: “Thanks to all of you gamers in getting us to 1,000,000 sales of PS4 in our first 24 hours!”

PlayStation group chief executive Andrew House chimed in: “PS4 was designed with an unwavering commitment to gamers, and we are thrilled that consumer reaction has been so phenomenal.

“Sales remain very strong in North America, and we expect continued enthusiasm as we launch the PlayStation 4 in Europe and Latin America on November 29.

We are extremely grateful for the passion of PlayStation fans and thank them for their continued support.”

Considering all the beatings XBox One has endured it’s no surprise that PS4 is the favorite in this console war. But given the recent mishaps with problematic PS4′s having that HDMI problem; which I doubt will be fixed with a patch… One has to wonder if its the hail mary that XBox One has been waiting for to turn the tide in their direction. Friends of mine are deeply concerned about whether or not their Amazon bought PS4′s will be a lemon. I think the lemon toll is way too high, it’s like a flash back to XBox 360′s day one launch. It wasn’t pretty and this launch is shaping up to be more about beating XBox One in sales rather than a quality console launch. XBox 360 got away with a poor launch cause they had a whole year to bounce back, but I doubt they would’ve been able to bounce back if the PS3 had launched a week afterwards at a friendlier price point. Making this a strange time to pick a break out star. PS4 has it’s price point (and potentially a more superior hardware) working for it, even if the XBox One launches without flaw. But each day will seem like an eternity if we’re going into Black Friday and Christmas with a 50/50 chance of purchasing a PS4 lemon. All of a sudden, the price point for the XBox One doesn’t seem so ridiculous if the probability of purchasing an XBox One lemon is next to 0%. I really hope PS4 gets it together, even if they have to take a major loss to replace lemons. cause those 1 million in sales will only become 50% disgruntled gamers if they don’t fix those issues, and FAST.

Mine came from Amazon with no issues. I have a 2nd one on the way from amazon also so we shall see if the 2nd one has issues also.

Seems like people like you show up on sites and post foolishness all over the place. You’re saying Xbox One will have a 0% failure rate? You seriously can’t be thinking straight. Also, failure rate for PS4 has been .04 percent, which is about 4000 out of 1 million consoles. That’s a VERY good margin.

So that 50/50 chance talk is complete bogus. All the gamers that I know who’ve bought PS4s are really enjoying the console. In fact, at its prime, there are about 300,000 people playing Call of Duty: Ghosts on the console… Not counting the hundreds of thousands more playing BF4, Killzone: Shadow Fall, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, Need For Speed, the sports games and more. Which goes to show that most PS4 units are just fine.

Stop spreading lies, man.
