Project Eternity is Obsidian’s mystery title

Days ago, Obsidian teased us with an image which closely resembled Bethesda’s “The Elder Scrolls Online” logo, and we were actually wondering if they would be involved with the project. Now, though, we know we were completely wrong, as Obsidian revealed their mystery project.

Project Eternity (working title) is Obsidian’s new game, a Kickstarted fantasy RPG that pays homage to Planescape: Torment, Baldur’s Gate and Icewind Dale.

That’s what we have on the game so far

An isometric PC game, it will have tactical real-time combat with a pause system, and strategically placing your party members around the battlefield and coordinating your attacks will be key to victory. You will also make your own hero and draft party members throughout your journey. Some info suggests the hero will persist across “future adventures”, but since even the first game is not off the ground yet, that’s very hopeful thinking.

Game designers Chris Avellone (lead designer of Planescape: Torment), Tim Cain (creator of Fallout) and Josh Sawyer are on board, leading the project, with a story that will explore “mature themes” and present you with “complex, difficult choices”.
