Battlefield 4 sticking to modern era, Bad Company 3 not crossed out

gdc-europe

Today, during the GDC Europe event, DICE general manager, Karl Magnus Troedsson revealed little, but precious, information regarding Battlefield 4 and Bad Company 3.

Starting with how they chose to continue this way, he said that “There’s a lot of things inspiring us as to how the franchise will move on. Everything from fans’ feedback, to market research and, of course, what we want to build ourselves. It’s not just one single thing.”

Then, he jokingly added “And, yes, I know Battlefield 4 is probably the most creative name we ever could come up with. I can’t comment any more on that games because it’s all secret.”

Closing, he said “We still want to stay in this genre, the modern day as it is. We feel this is a place we can be and continue with the series. Battlefield 4 can live in this space and be very successful.”

And for the cherry on top of the pie, he added “That doesn’t mean there might not be a Bad Company game again in the future.”

Can we expect a Bad Company 3 game soon then, if at all? Considering that there was a good 6 years’ time between Battlefield 2 and Battlefield 3, it’s interesting they announced Battlefield 4 just a year after the third game’s release. Which begs for the question, will the next entry be Bad Company 3? We can only wait and see.

Meanwhile, read

Modern day, I’m happy they didn’t choose some cheesey far future setting. I am sad that it will be bf3 instead of bad company 3 even though I guess it really doesn’t matter since they combined the game play mechanics of both the games….

I suppose Bad Company 3 will land in 2014 or 2015 at most, since, as I see it, they’re going for at least one huge release each year. This year’s Warfighter, next year Battlefield 4, 2014 = ?. We’ll need to wait and see, but I loved Bad Company to be honest :D

Same here I enjoyed bc2 a lot more than I do bf3 ( a lot not allot nick lol) everything was balanced there was no m16 that was too decent at everything and the maps were so much better.

looking like they announced the game just because of all the leaks!
starting to think this will be a launch title for next gen systems and there doing BF4 so soon and not BC3 or ME2 because they know that it would be the best seller, and to be honest the best test of next gen technology.
sad though, because while it may be best for the industry it certainly is not best for the fans!
for crying out loud we need a new BFBC game, and even more so a new ME game!!!!!!!!!
this is starting to get like BLACK!
a massively innovative game, added so much new to the genre, reviewed so well, sold so well, and was rumored to be getting a sequel for so long!
    but STILL has not happened!
looks like BC3 and ME2 will befall the same fate.
    :(

@Nick: Yeah, it’ll be next gen, bro. It will be.

I don’t think it will be a next-gen game, simply because of the beta. They guarantee beta access with Warfighter pre-orders, right? So, if they then tell me I need to buy a new system to play it, while it was not written anywhere at the time of my Warfighter purchase, you can imagine what I can do to them. Thus, the beta remains on current-gen systems. And if you play-test the game on the PS3/X360 (PC is left out for obvious reasons), you can’t then go ahead and release it on the PS4/X720, it’s just illogical.

That’s how I see it anyway, and makes some sense.

ah yea forgot about the beta.
or maybe it will be for both current and next gen systems.

That’s a more likely scenario, and an even more likely is for Bad Company 3 to be a next-gen launch title, since it’s aiming for a 2014 release, at least.

nah it wont be a launch title because it wont sell enough units, DICE is struggling to convince EA to let them do another as it is as a current gen title let alone a next gen title!
for a launch title you need a big popular franchise, BC does not have the fan base BF does.
    nor does ME.
MoH would be a better one to go off if not BF.
