With One Less Studio, XCOM Development Presses On

When 2K Games announced that its Canberra, Australia studio was leaving XCOM behind to work on Bioshock: Infinite, many speculated whether the game would be placed on hold, or would development press forward. The firm’s confirmed the latter.

2K Games told Kotaku that 2K Marine, the primary developer behind XCOM, is “focused on delivering a triple-A entertainment experience.” When pressed harder concerning a smaller team leading to even longer delays, a spokesperson told the site, “As mentioned Marin is the only team working on the game. But as a rule, we can’t comment about the size of our development teams. ”

The game was supposed to be released March 6th, 2012, however 2K delayed it into its fiscal year, which begins on April 1st, 2012 and ends March 31st, 2013.

games almost finished, marin were only doing localization and QA so they were switched to infinite which wont be out till late next year.
last studio we have here, i hope 2K does not close it otherwise were finished!
such a shame visceral melborne was shut down, they were supposedly working on a really cool new IP for 3 years!
what a waste, putting 3 years of work into a project and then just putting it in the fireplace.

Why are they closing down in AU?

  • nick

    who?
visceral closed down because the title they were working on for 3 years EA thought they would never get there money back so they canned it, and canned the studio because of really high costs.
the strength of the AU dollar against the US has really hurt our developers which is why almost all our studios closed this year.
just allot cheaper to run studios in the states and canada, which is why your seeing allot of new studios pop up in montreal, then it is here.
