Just like Medal of Honor before it, Battlefield 3′s executive producer Patrick Bach has said there’ll most likely be some kind of online pass for for the game.
That’s what he told Gamerzines, adding players will “probably” have to register a code included along with new copies of the game in order to access its multiplayer component.
“I don’t think it’s an online pass, I think it’s our own backend. I’m not sure I want to call our system an online pass,” he said.
When asked if EA was demanding that second-hand purchasers of the game pay to play online, Bach conceded: “I think we are.”
The exec went to EA’s defense quickly, however, adding those monies would help pay for the game’s servers.
“The whole idea is that we’re paying for servers and if you create a new account there is a big process on how that is being handled in the backend,” he said.
“We would rather have you buy a new game than a used game because buying a used game is only a cost to us; we don’t get a single dime from a used game, but we still need to create server space and everything for you.
We want people to at least pay us something to create this because we’re paying for it. It was actually a loss for us to have new players.
Hopefully people understand why. It’s not to punish people. To us it’s compensation.”
Battlefield 3 goes on sale in October for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.

thats just silly.
it is not costing them any extra money because they got their money before.
they sell x amount of games there always going to have that amount of people playing the game.
its not like you can play the game without the game.
its just greediness simple as that!
the 120 AUD were paying for games is not enough now, they want more for DLC, more for online.
whats next?
5 dollars to open my disk tray?
2 dollars to stream a movie from my ps3?
where do you draw the line?
EA’s taking up the trend. I wonder what will be the results of this.
lower sales for one.
looks like army of two will be getting a sequel soon.
plus if you look at a DICE employees linkden profile you will see a unannounced TPS running on the FB2 engine.
looks like EA are trying to go cross platform on all there games, get everything running off it.
AoT running on FB2, now that would be freaking amazing!
wish they would license it out to ubi and let them use it for the new rainbow six game!
