What if the story path of Uncharted lead the writers to the point where Nathan Drake would have to be killed, should they do it? And if so, would it in turn kill the franchise? Because according to Naughty Dog’s Evan Wells, if the script calls for the death of Nathan Drake, they would ax the bastard.
He didn’t say “bastard”, just my two cents there, but speaking to CVG Wells did say that if such a thing was to ever happen, it wouldn’t be for “dramatic shock value.”
“We’re not dogmatic about anything,” said Wells. “If that is what it takes [to advance the storyline] then that’s what it takes. And not just for dramatic shock value – it would definitely have to tie into the narrative that [we're] trying to tell and expose an aspect of Drake’s character that we would want to delve into.”
Wells didn’t say if the axing of Nathan Drake, or any other main character was planned for Uncharted 3, however he said the story this time would focus mostly on the main protagonist, with the rest of the crew taking a backseat.
“We are trying to keep things fresh and draw certain aspects of Nate’s personality out as well as the characters he’s surrounded with,” he cotinued. Adding: “Chloe and Elena are back but they aren’t the emphasis of the story the way they were in Uncharted 2. This time round the emphasis is on Victor Sullivan and his mentor/protégé relationship with Drake.”
The PS3 exclusive comes out on November 1st.
