Crystal Dynamic’s said as of the foreseeable future, its concentration will be on the Tomb Raider brand and not Lara Croft, so don’t expect anything new from the latter soon.
It was in an interview with Joystiq that the firm’s global brand manager Karl Stewart made clear their stance, leaving nothing to guess as it’s now quite clear Lara Croft might be laid to rest.
“We’re not making a second one,” he said. “We’re not making a second Lara. For us, that Lara Croft was, in a way, it was sort of the furthest possible extension of that iteration of Lara. Once we finished Guardian of Light, obviously we knew we were making this version of Tomb Raider.”
“In business terms, it was very successful,. In terms of issues, the one issue that plagued us all the way through, which looking back we would’ve changed our minds to do other things, was definitely the online. I wish if we had the ability and had the information, we could’ve been a bit more transparent.”
The Tomb Raider reboot is expected to release sometime next year for PS3 and Xbox 360.
