Online Quencher – PS3 Firmware Update 3.60 Is Now Live, PS Plus Members Benefit

Sony’s sent live its latest firmware update 3.60, and it does a few things for us all, but the real beneficiaries are PS Plus members, as the new online storage cloud saving system has gone live with it. A service that’s available only to PS Plus members.

The online storage service will allow PS3 owners to make game saves online or “in the cloud”, up to a maximum of 1,000 saves or 150Mb of data.

Users will find access to the online storage service through the XMB, under the Games icon. Once there, the option to save game data, or download and start from where they left off will be available.

What’s even better is that game saves will be able to be accessed via your PSN account on any PlayStation 3 system. So whether you’re in the Caribbean on vacation, or somewhere in Canada, you’ll be able to download a game save from any PS3 and continue gaming.

The new service, according to Sony, means that game data will now be safe when updated confirm software.

For all PS3 owners, there’s additional security, and the option to set a timeout to their controller. So for instance if your control is inactive for a while, you can have it turn of between 20-30 minutes.

Firmware update 3.60 is mandatory.

    wish they would make the cloud saves automatic.
    kinda counterproductive if you still need to do it manually.

    why not a switch to turn it off?
    the whole point of this is to help avoid corrupted saves, but thats not going to help if you have to transport it yourself.
    they should make it that every time you start the game your asked if you want auto saves duplicated and sent to the server.
    that way if your file corrupts you can just redownload it and start again.
    instead of hoping you backed up a previous one, if you did loose countless hours, and if you did not restart the game from scratch!
