PS3 Gets Online Storage Cloud-Saving Service Starting Tomorrow, Will Be PS Plus Exclusive – The Full Quencher

Come tomorrow March 10th, Sony will launch a cloud-based online storage service allowing PS3 owners to save their games in the clouds, having access to it wherever they go. The new service will be exclusive to PlayStation Plus subscribers.

The online storage service will allow PS3 owners to make game saves online or “in the cloud”, up to a maximum of 1,000 saves or 150Mb of data.

Users will find access to the online storage service through the XMB, under the Games icon. Once there, the option to save game data, or download and start from where they left off will be available.

What’s even better is that game saves will be able to be accessed via your PSN account on any PlayStation 3 system. So whether you’re in the Caribbean on vacation, or somewhere in Canada, you’ll be able to download a game save from any PS3 and continue gaming.

The new service, according to Sony, means that game data will now be safe when updated confirm software.

Quencher ContinuesPS Plus Envy

I must admit that I’ve been stalling on buying into PS Plus. Not because it has no value, I think it’s more than worth the price, but because I just never got around to doing it. But now, honestly, it’s time.

The amount of content, and free perks given to PS Plus subs are ridiculous. From early access to betas, full game trials, early access to demos, PSone classics, free games and much, much more. Now adding this new service, I see no reason not to join.

Again, the Online Storage system will launch tomorrow March 10th.

I like PS+. At first it had a slow start but now it has picked up and the offerings are much, much better.

    Indeed. Really great value.

  • os1019

Great move Sony. As someone that travels a lot this should be very useful.

Yes indeed os1019! This should work perfect for you……

no one is mentioning anythin for the non plus members…. will this update be optional to them since they( we) have nothing to look forward too?

  • http://www.gamesthirst.com Ernice Gilbert

    I don’t think it’ll be optional…. And I don’t think it’ll add nothing for us non-plus members…. Hopefully a revamp of the dashboard? It’s zugly.

  • afrotravis

i think i read this comment: some1 said they update may not be abt changing the xmb…. S/he said they might not be changin the xmb for ps3 coz they would have to change for the psp’s too… tht means releasing an update for them as well.. due to remote connectivity and stuff…. wat do u think abt tht…

  • http://www.gamesthirst.com Ernice Gilbert

Yeah, that’s a valid point. Didn’t know PSP and PS3 were so intertwined though. I guess we’ll see when the maintenance is up. But yeah, if that’s the case, we probably won’t see a XMB update : (

Good thing I’m already PS+ then.

  • nick

    sweet!
hope it does not run off the cloud though, because if it does and your game freezes your file on the cloud will become corrupt.
if it downloads it from the cloud, and automatically saves on the cloud and console then that would really come in handy!
wish sony would provide a game streaming service too.
now you can store saves online, so now all we need is games stored online and we can play our games wherever we want!

    I”m getting it.

  • nick

wish they would make it automatic though.
they should make it that every time you save your game in game its sent to the servers, instead of having to manually copy it across yourself.

  • http://www.gamesthirst.com Ernice Gilbert

So what if you don’t want it to save there? Manually, I think, is the best option. Only if there’s a feature that allows for tweaking..

  • nick

no they should make it automatic, do a duplicate every time the game saves.
that way if your save becomes corrupt you can just copy it off the server.
