If you thought Sony would just stand by while Nintendo built a monopoly in the handheld market, you must have been dreaming a long, stale, and unrealistic fantasy.
News broke yesterday that pinned down the PSP2 for a January 27th reveal at a private event in Tokyo Japan, but now more details have surfaced. They include the system’s release quarter and its raw power amongst other things.
Hint: The PSP2′s as powerful as the PS3. Confirmed.
That’s according to sources close to MCV, adding Sony’s already consulted with developers, and have specifically told them to release “richer, more in-depth content to differentiate its device from app-centric Apple and Android devices”.
The handheld will boast a HD screen with twin-stick controls in the familiar ‘brick’ form factor, and will release in Q4, as early as October.
Sony’s already set to release more information at GDC and E3, after the tease that’s happening later this month. Securing HD handheld games will get developers and publishers excited, and launch momentum will build, is Sony’s view.
Not leaving brick and mortar outlets behind, the PSP2 will “use a media format to make sure retail has a part to play in the console’s lifecycle by selling physical software”.
Yet even if it’s essentially a high end portable gaming device, the casual crowd won’t be neglected, as it “will also provide access to plenty of downloadable content, smaller games and apps via PSN – and maybe even incorporate a phone, but not as a primary function”.
This is all big news friends, massive news indeed.

yup and pigs fly backwards!
no, seriously it is impossible for a handheld to be as powerful as the PS3!
and be a phone at the same time?
why not ask it to cook your dinner, collect the washing and wash the car while your at it?
im sorry, but if the PSP2 is as powerful as the ps3 i swear to god ill eat my hat!
Today’s the 14th day of January 2011. Someone might just end up eating his hat. Remember that statement fellas.
its impossible!
the parts would cost a arm and a leg they would have to sell it for 700 bucks!
whos going to pay 700 bucks for a handheld?
whos going to pay 200 bucks more than a ps3!?
it would require so much room it would be the size of the PS3!
it would get so hot it would be too hot to hold.
it would require so many fans thus again increasing the size, and increasing the cost and it would have a pathetic battery life!
its just not conceivable, its possible but it would cost so much, be so big, run so hot, last so short not only would no one buy it, but millions would be mocking it!
sometimes we need to step back into reality, how cool it sounds to be walking around with a ps3 in our pocket its just not going to happen!
yet.
and, remember i never said what the hat was made out of.

Whatever it’s made of, you’ll eat that hat. haha
mmmmmmmmmmmm, nachos!
