Kinect Will Be “Sold Out Alot” Believes Ubisoft

by Ernice Gilbert on November 4th, 2010, under Hot, Microsoft, News

Microsoft’s motion gaming peripheral, Kinect, is now out and available in the U.S. How will the device perform? Exceptionally well, if you’re to believe the words of Ubisoft Ubisoft’s SVP, sales and marketing, Tony Key.

“We’re supporting this system in a big way,” he told Industry Gamers. “We believe in it, and to be blunt about it, depending on how fast Microsoft can make these units and replenish these units, we believe that the Kinect is going to be hard to get. It’s going to be sold out a lot this holiday season.”

“We try to project how many units of the hardware will be in the marketplace. We know how many they’re making. We know how many they’re telling us they’re making. What we don’t know is the demand for that. We believe they’re not making enough to satisfy demand, not by their own choice, because they’re making them as fast as they can. We’re optimistic that the attach rate of Kinect will be really good to the launch titles because the machine, the hardware, is cool, and that it will be selling out a lot.”

He continued: “We’re there with three launch titles. We want to support Kinect; we think it’s good for the industry. We think it could be really good for Ubisoft. We’ve believed in 3D camera technology for a long time. We’ve been working on 3D camera technology for many years and even years before we ever even heard of Natal. We’ve believed in this tech, we’ve been doing research. We’ve got an experience level that I think gives us a competitive advantage over most of our competitors. For us, this is a big play and big reward potentially.”

Well I will not be getting it until there are some good games out for it. I know the games coming out will appeal to kids, but if you look at the line up, you will see that all the games fall under three different genres. There is not much variety. Also, I do not have the minimum of 6 ft. to play single player and I really do not have 8 ft. to play co-op. So this is a pass for me. It will sell good because MS is good at misleading and not fully informing their customers. In fact, I have had a few friends already get it and can’t play because they do not have enough room, and they are pretty tall and it can’t read them because they are to close to Kinect.

I will not buy Kinect, just like I didn’t purchase the Wii.

Case closed. I’m not into motion gaming.

I am having fun with my Move, but it is not a must have. I really want Heroes on the Move, Sorcery and I want to play Killzone and games like that. Move only cost me $100 and I have gotten a lot of enjoyment out of it, and there are some great hardcore games coming out for it. Kinect on the other does not appeal to me. I do not have friends who come over that much, and when they do, we are not the type of people to play the Kinect games. MS is going for the moms and little kids, who are uninformed and swept away by the advertising.

After the initial sales, it’ll be interesting to see how it plays out. If people will continue to buy, or will the craze eventually die.

doubt it will, look at the wii i thought that would die off quickly but its been out for whar 4 years? and only now is it starting to die off.
if M$ really push it with games and advertisement, than fix all the niggles so people with smaller rooms can use it than its going to sell well for a long, long time.
than they can have it built in for the next console, but upgraded obviously would be pointless to have the same thing in there, needs to be more accurate, higher res.
