Square-Enix wants to change the culture of gaming forever. Company CEO, Yoichi Wada, says all its games will have some sort of online component in the future, and that the company is planning to “change the culture” of Square-Enix by hauling in “fresh blood”.
“In all of the games we will be releasing going forward, some kind of multiplayer element will be incorporated one way or another,” Wada told Forbes in an E3 interview.
That type of wording from Wada sure sounds radical, especially when looking at the company’s traditional lineup, which includes mega-hit franchise, Final Fantasy, a game that’s not associated with online play except for Final Fantasy XI, and the upcoming MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV.
Wada, however, clarified that not all games will be MMORPGs, but all will at least have some sort of online aspect.
“It is not as if all the [all of our] game creators will become capable of creating MMORPG-type games,” he says. “What we will encourage them to do is to incorporate some kind of multiplayer element even in single player games.”
