Final Fantasy XIII On Xbox 360 Runs “As Smooth” As PS3 Version

You’ve heard the talk, ‘PS3 version of Final Fantasy XIII will be the superior one’.

Can you remember E3 2008? Everyone can; it was the single biggest bombshell we’d seen at the show for a while: Final Fantasy XIII, once a PS3 exclusive title was announced as coming to the Xbox 360. The place went dead quiet and the internet was literally up in flames. Now things have cooled down somewhat and gamers (PS3) have come to accept the reality of the situation, albeit grudgingly, with some now looking toward Final Fantasy Versus XIII as the true next-gen Final Fantasy because as of now, its exclusivity to the PS3 hasn’t changed; as of now.

So everyone basically believed it: if you’re buying Final Fantasy XIII, you should buy the PS3 version of the game. There’s been little contention with that rational because we all automatically link the franchise with the PlayStation console, plus while the Xbox 360 version will need multiple discs, PS3 handles the entire game on one Blu-ray, disc swapping is so passe’ they say. So what’s the deal with all this back and fourth and should you buy the PS3 version of the game? Well yes, if you have a PS3 we recommend you do, but if your’re really adamant about experiencing this first class JRPG and you don’t have a PS3, please, don’t go out and purchase the console; by all means get it on Xbox 360 because according to the website 1up, the thing runs just as smooth on 360 like it does on PS3.

“It was therefore a pleasant surprise when I discovered FFXIII runs just as smoothly on 360 as it does on PS3. It’s a brisk, action-packed RPG with tons happening on the screen at any given time (and the series’ requisite flashy visuals cranked up to full throttle), yet I didn’t see a hint of slowdown or choppiness or screen tearing or any of the other visual hiccups that serve as hallmarks of a sloppy port. Admittedly, I didn’t see the two versions running side-by-side — the bus set them apart with a looping trailer dividing the kiosks — but I honestly saw no tangible difference from my time with the PS3 version.”

1up did not compare both versions of the game running side-by-side, however the website did say there does not seem to be any big difference, if any at all. Saying “seem to be” leaves the door open to speculation, but if it’s not even noticeable, then that in itself is a great accomplishment by Square-Enix.

You know the inevitable comparisons with lash the web like a tidal wave soon; very soon we’ll behold the truth with our own naked eyes.
