Killzone: Shadow Fall will be the first title in the franchise to run at 60fps and 1080p. In fact, there’s no other game on consoles running at such high fidelity, and not ever upcoming generation games have boasted this.
DICE’s Battlefield 4 runs at 60fps, but only 720p, so too is Call of Duty: Ghosts — however Killzone: Shadow Fall from Guerrilla Games, being a PS4 launch title, will break new grounds in console gaming.
The news was reaffirmed by Steven ter Heide, Game Director for Killzone: Shadow Fall, who told the PS Blogcast that the first thing people will notice is the game’s visuals, and secondly how it feels.
I think the most immediate thing people notice is the leap in visual fidelity. We have more horsepower with PlayStation 4 and that means you can do bigger, bolder things. It’s running at 1080p, it’s running far above 30 frames – we’re aiming at 60 – so that’s a very good thing. That’s the first thing people notice just the visuals, the way it feels.
But I think, what’s really exciting to me, is the new options that we have available in terms of creating Warzones and giving more freedom to the players and saying, ‘How do you want the game to play out?’ If you look at the whole package, where people start streaming their games, where they start sharing videos and all sorts of stuff, we really want to see unique gameplay and what people come up with.
Killzone: Shadow Fall is a PS4 launch game, releasing alongside the new console on November 15th in the U.S. and on the 29th of the same month in Europe.
