DICE: “We Have Other Things Cooking Apart From Battlefield 4″

Now that DICE is free to talk about Battlefield 4 in light of the game’s announcement, the firm has said it expects to make the impending shooter better than its predecessor, obviously, taking notes from the chaotic release of Battlefield 3 to forge something that’s exceptional. But is Battlefield all DICE working on? No, says General Manager Karl-Magnus Troedsson, DICE has been forging other exciting things. Things the developer simply can’t talk about at the present.

In a video featuring DICE studio bosses looking back on the eventful journey that brought Battlefield 3 to fruition, and watching it grow, Troedsson said “it’s been a ride of a lifetime”, and that he’s “really proud of what we managed to do”.

At the 5:47 mark, when asked what was in store for the firm moving forward, he said:

 There’s a lot of interesting things, and these kind of questions are always hard to answer because we can’t talk about it, of course. We’re working on Battlefield 4 and that’s going to be an amazing title and we actually can start talking about that of course. But we have other things cooking here at DICE as well that you will see more of in the future.

DICE has a few victories under its belt, including Bad Company, a franchise gamers have been calling for for years. But perhaps its Mirror’s Edge 2 we’ll see in DICE’s near future.

Back in November 2012, Ben Cousins, general manager of ngmoco Sweden and former executive producer of the Battlefield franchise, tweeted that the development scene in Stockholm was aware that Mirror’s Edge 2 is under development, and has been for a while. The tweet has since been deleted, but thank God for screengrabs.

 

 

EA Games vice president Patrick Soderlund added more fuel to the rumor mill when he told OXM that EA wouldn’t dare limit DICE to just one IP, referring to the Battlefield franchise:

The minute we start saying ‘you’re going to make a Battlefield game for the rest of your life’, they’re going to go some place else. So for them to make great Battlefield games there need to be other things for them to do as well. That’s why we have people who move around quite a bit. And then obviously we have a boatload of people that just want to make Battlefield because they love it.

So DICE is working on another game, that we can confirm. But which is it? Take your guesses in the comments section.
