PS4 Will See Global Launch In 2013 – GameStop

GameStop chief financial officer Robert A. Lloyd has revealed to the company’s investors that PlayStation 4 won’t launch only in the U.S. this year, but also in Europe and Japan – even globally.

“With Grand Theft Auto 5 and Battlefield 4 releasing in the third quarter, and the PlayStation 4 launching in the fourth quarter, we expect a return to growth for the back half of the year,” Lloyd said, courtesy Seeking Alpha.

As for Microsoft, Lloyd wasn’t sure the firm would be release the next Xbox this year.

“We know that Sony will introduce the PlayStation 4 globally in 2013, but we are still waiting to see what Microsoft’s final plans are.”

“We have scenarios with one console introduction, as well as with two. Even a single launch in 2013 will drive double-digit console growth in 2014; and two launches, as noted above, would likely drive the console category north of 20% growth,” he added.

Although Sony has announced the PS4, the actual console has yet to be seen. Why? Because Sony wanted to save some thunder for E3. Expect this year’s show to be one for the history books.
