Microsoft To Release Xbox 720 In June – Report

Microsoft’s next Xbox will release in June, an Israeli website with details of the company’s recent Pando acquisition has revealed.

According to Calcalist, Microsoft bought Pando, a Israeli company for no more than $11 million, with intentions to use the technology in its next Xbox.

So, what’s Pando?

It’s a file-sharing technology that works peer-to-peer (P2P), similar to bit-torrent. The website says it’s an add-on service for anyone wanting to send large files via IM, email or social networks. It’s also a content delivery network that can host assets for websites, similar to Amazon Web Services.

My Take

So here’s what I think. The next Xbox, after Sony’s well-executed PlayStation 4 event, will need to offer its own sharing feature, as the DualShock 4′s share button has been a big hit. But will Pando be enough? There are smart people at Microsoft and I’m sure there’s a way they’ll integrate the tech into the next Xbox, but it won’t been as ‘natural’ as the PS4′s feature because the latter was built from scratch.

As for the next Xbox launching in June, Microsoft has pulled stunners in the past, so I’m not putting this past them. They have the money, therefore anything is possible.
