Valve Suddenly Fires “25″ Employees, Newell Responds

It all started when Jeri Ellsworth, a very important person of Valve’s exciting hardware R&D team tweeted that she was suddenly fired by the company. Soon after Gamasutra reported that it had learned about 25 people were let go. A storm was building, obviously, and Valve boss  Gabe Newell sought to calm the weather with a response.

Mr. Newell issued this statement to Engadget:

We don’t usually talk about personnel matters for a number of reasons. There seems to be an unusual amount of speculation about some recent changes here, so I thought I’d take the unusual step of addressing them. No, we aren’t canceling any projects. No, we aren’t changing any priorities or projects we’ve been discussing. No, this isn’t about Steam or Linux or hardware or [insert game name here]. We’re not going to discuss why anyone in particular is or isn’t working here.

According to the report on Gamasutra, hardware and Android departments were hit the hardest, revealing that the firings had to do with a shift in the company’s focus rather than any individual performance issues.

maybe valve have realized there going to have a hard time marketing a console like PC?
really cant see the point of things like the alienware X21 for instance, its a PC the size of a console really thats all it is!
and the price for this compactness?
about 3 times the price of a PC roughly 40% larger!
    what a bargain!
