The Secret World Is Now Free To Play

The Secret World Is Now Free To Play

The Secret World is now available for anyone who has a decent PC to play, as Funcom has ditched the paid-subscriber model in an effort to, ironically, increase profits and its userbase. The latter, of course, is a given.

There will still be a paid model in place for those who want extra benefits (the source of extra profits), however once you buy the game all content, including all four major updates will be yours free of charge. Also, if you purchase The Secret World before 31st,  you’ll get all the Issue #5 free of charge, too. That includes strong starter weapons, a Blood Raven pet and extra social clothing which would normally set you back $5.

Now that the game’s gone free to play, those who wish to carry on with their monthly subscription will see additional benefits not available to non-paying users, they include:

  • Time Accelerator[/b] (Clickable item which increases experience gain for defeating monsters by 100% for 1 hour, 16 hour cool-down – only usable by Members and Grand Masters)
  • $10 worth of Bonus Points (given out every month) which can be used to purchase expansion content if desired
  • Item-of-the-month gift (given out every month)
  • 10% discount to everything in the in-game store

Lifetime Grandmasters will also receive the content, along with an additional 10 percent discount on all in-game store content.
