Killzone 2 was released 4 years ago and has been deemed best in franchise by many a fan. So it’s good to know that, even after sales have slowed to a halt and Killzone 3 is out, Guerrilla Games is still keeping the shooter’s servers not only open, but properly updated.
“Heads up: Killzone 2 servers will be brought offline for maintenance in 15 minutes. We’ll be back in one hour. Sorry for the inconvenience,” reads a post on the official Killzone Facebook page.
The game was a refreshment to the shooter genre when it released on February 27th, 2009, and I can still remember the many complaints occupying gaming forums about the its controls, which felt weighty and had a different configuration than what Call of Duty made standard.
As of May 12th, 2012, Killzone 2 had sold 2.84 million units globally compared to Killzone 3′s 2.25 million. In light of these numbers, we have to ask whether the changes that Guerrilla Games brought to the third installment was necessary, like ridding KZ3 of KZ2′s control scheme, eliminating the weighty feel that had become a Killzone trademark, and replacing it with a Call of Duty-esque vibe.
Killzone 4 is definitely under development, and we’re hoping Guerrilla Games is making all the right decisions to give us the best Killzone game, ever.

Just goes to show how many people are still playing it! i dip into every now and again, but half of my friends list still regularly play this game. We all no how much i love this game, no other shooter will ever come close to this for MP action, purely for what it did to me on a personal scale, i was never interested in FPS until this came along and the amount of time i spent on this and the amount if friends i made will never ever again be repeated. Last time i checked i was still ranked in the top 400! lets hope that KZ4 will be a remake of KZ2 and not KZ3!
@Fox: Agreed, man. It’s good to know the game’s still being maintained after so long. I personally love KZ3, but I know where you’re coming from. KZ4 needs to be, and I think will be, a good balance of what made the franchise so great.
still cant understand why it did not catch on like it should of!
i guess the lack of DLC, community events and constant networking issues like the 5021 errors did not help but still.
shame to see such a awesome and fresh new idea go to waste simply because of poor polish and post release attention!
Hopefully we get a good mix of KZ2 and 3 in 4.
