Uncharted Designer Leaves Naughty Dog For Job At University

Richard Lemarchand has been Naughty Dog’s lead designer for a very long time, working alongside Amy Hennig to help establish the uber-popular Uncharted franchise. He’s no longer at the firm, however, as he’s reportedly confirmed to Gamasutra that he’ll take up a new teaching role at the University of Southern California after globetrotting for three months.

“I’ve always been a very hands-on game designer,” he told Gamasutra. “And I’m a big believer that no matter what level you’re working at on a project, it’s a very great thing to be able to stay connected to the practical processes of building out a game.”

After he’s trip, the designer will be involved in creating new experimental games as part of a research project, and will apparently be “surrounded by awesome people, talking craft and philosophy, and building strange new things!”

Former graduates of the reputable university include Thatgamecompany co-founders Jenova Chen and Kellee Santiago.

We wish him all the best.
