Naughty Dog’s confirmed that Uncharted 3′s multiplayer won’t be hosted with dedicated servers, instead the company has once more opted to use a player host-client architecture so the game could stay running for over “four years” if they so choose.
That’s according to a representative speaking on twitter, adding dedicated server costs could really add up overtime.
“We’re not going to have dedicated servers, [we] made that decision long time ago [and] we built the current player host-client architecture,” said the rep.
“[The] decision for that server architecture was to be better able to support our fans long-term if we can [and] want.”
“The cost delta [between] dedicated & non-dedicated [servers] is huge long term. Eventually someone will say it costs too [much and] shut them down.
My personal hope is that by keeping costs down [and with] strong enough community, we could be in a position to consider [four or more years] of uptime.”
Uncharted 3 which is currently in open multiplayer beta, and will release exclusively on PS3 November 1st.
