Mirror’s Edge 2 Canned, Franchise On Hold

I know there are many Mirror’s Edge fans in the wild who are longing for a sequel for the well received game which did not, by the way, show a stellar performance at retail. Well, because of the poor sales and development costs for Battlefield 3, Mirror’s Edge 2 will not happen anytime soon, with EA putting the franchise on hold altogether.

Although there was never an official unveiling of Mirror’s Edge 2, EA CEO John Riccitiello has spoken positively about a sequel. That, however, was just all talk according to a report from press2play (via Eurogamer).

“Patrick [Soderlund - EA driving and shooting game boss] acknowledges that Mirror’s Edge didn’t match up to their expectations regarding sales, and that has stopped the sequel that has been in development,” read the report.

“EA was shown a prototype, but declined with askance. The project has been stopped – involved parties at DICE are working on something else now. Patrick himself seems to have Mirror’s Edge near his heart, but they are not in the business of charity.”

Now all focus is on Battlefield 3, as EA fights hard to regain the position it once held as top FPS publisher.
