Greenberg Calls In Question The Launch Lineup Of PS Move

by Ernice Gilbert on September 20th, 2010, under Hot, Microsoft, News, Sony

Sony’s PS Move’s on sale now around the world except in Japan, which will see a release in early November, and by the look of things, it’s been performing mighty good — better than even Sony expected. The giant’s also pleased with the amount of software available at launch for its peripheral, but Microsoft product director Aaron Greenberg sees it different.

He thinks MS’s launch software for Kinect was in stark contrast to Move’s – as it had been built specifically for the device, and the games available for Move, according to him, “are really controller-based games that [developers have] added the Move functionality to.”

“I think that most of the experiences designed for Kinect were designed from the ground up,” he told CVG. “The difference is, it seems, a lot of the games made for Move are really controller-based games that [developers have] added the Move functionality to.”

“Our approach has been different, because we feel that a controller is the best way to play games like Halo or Call of Duty. So we’d rather not have you have to choose between using a controller or motion controller; we’d rather design experiences that are uniquely made for Kinect.

Now, there is the ability to have hybrid games that combine both – but we think those will be designed uniquely for that experience too.”

Kinect will launch on November 4th in the US, on the 10th in UK and Australia will see the motion sensing device come to its shores on November 18th.
