In Rising, You Can Play Through The Game Without Killing A Soul

by Ernice Gilbert on August 20th, 2010, under Hot, Kojima Productions, Konami

What’s your purpose when playing games? Is it to kill your way through to victory, or make only the necessary decisions, killing only who you must and conspicuously attaining your goal?

I reckon, most players are in it for the fun, the head shots, slashing and dicing through God of War III like a man with only one passion: to be a killing machine. Most, to be honest, don’t like to stealth around like they were afraid to be seen.

For the prudent, though, there’s Metal Gear Solid: Rising. According to the game’s producer, a player can play through the entire thing without harming a soul.

He said this and more while speaking to Kotaku in a recent interview.

“I believe that MGS has a key stealth element in not trying to kill anyone,” Rising producer Shigenobu Matsuyama said. “You could actually have a no-kill completion [in Rising].”

“There will be a lot of mechs and cyborgs, but if you slice them up, that will be considered as a no-kill as well. You’ll have the freedom of killing humans, of course, but you can proceed through the game without killing a human being, but slicing up mechs and cyborgs.

I will put the essence of the beauty of the no-kill,” Matsuyama said. “I want to emphasize that I will never reward a player for killing human beings in the game. I won’t make it easier to clear the game [that way]. I will probably make it more difficult.”

For Ernice Gilbert, Metal Gear Solid: Rising will be about killing everything in his path. Literally.

i really, really, REALLY! hope this has move support!
this is the perfect game for move!
i really cant wait to see some more footage, apparently different ways you can kill enemies determine what rewards you get.
raiden gets his strength by eating those blue things seen in the E3 demo, depending on how you kill a enemy will determine what you get to eat.
mmmmmmmm, blue grubs im suddenly hungry!

Yeah, TGS would be perfect. I wonder how far in they are, development wise.
