For many gamers, Sony Santa Monica are already the best at what they do. Indeed, the God of War franchise stand leaps and bounds against its closest competitors in many ways, including sheer size and scale. But if you were to ask God of War III director, Stig Asmussen about the studio’s position in the industry, his answer would be somewhat humble. Confident but humble.
Speaking in an interview G4TV, the director spoke about many things, including where they are as a studio now, and the position they’d love to ultimately hold.
“The thing that we have I think other studios might be trying to find I think is just experience,” he said, “and we’ve done this with several games – you look at a game like Grant Theft Auto, nobody is really better at what they do than them. They’re the gold standard for the Sandbox Open-world game.
And I don’t know if we’re there yet but that’s what we’re striving to be for this type of game.”
He added: “I think we did a fantastic job kinda executing this whole titan scale thing and delivering an experience I think that when you play it you’re going to find that it’s unique and it stands on its own.”
It sure does Asmussen, God of War III sure does.
The game’s out on March 16th, 19th and 25th in the US, UK and Japan respectively. A must buy.

Awesomeness Is how I describe this title. Can’t wait for it.
I think its safe to say that the GOW series is the standard when it comes to these type of games. In my opinion no other game can really compete with the experience you get with a god of war game.
I agree with you there Mighty.
