Microsoft’s original vision for Xbox One certainly hasn’t panned out the way the company thought it would. In fact, you would not even know what the original vision for the console was if you didn’t know about the majorly upsetting DRM scandal. But even after making seemingly endless about turns to win back the goodwill of gamers, Xbox One is still struggling to be a strong competitor against Sony’s juggernaut, the PS4.
And now, according to industry veteran Matt Martin, a new hire at VG247, who was tipped off by a “respected source”, Microsoft will launch a cheaper Xbox One by the end of this year.
The source did not confirm whether this new model is the 1 terabyte model that’s been rumored to be coming, nor did it confirm if the upcoming cheaper console will be the one without a Blu-ray disc drive. And when reached for comment, Microsoft gave the usual answer: “we do not comment on rumor and speculation.”
My Take:
A cheaper Xbox One just two months after the console was released doesn’t exactly shout confidence, not does it scream success. It seems the rumors about Microsoft having a dismal month of Xbox One sales in January are true, and the firm is trying its best to move consoles. Just have a look at this promotion and you’ll get a picture of how ruthless Microsoft has become in its endeavor to catch up with Sony.
