Cross-Chat Between 360 And Xbox One Users Not Possible

Gamers on Xbox 360 and Xbox One won’t be able to communicate via chat, Microsoft’s Larry Hryb (Major Nelson) has made known, blaming the inability on Xbox One’s new audio codec.

“Based on what I know of the voice system, I would be surprised if this was possible,” Hryb said, responding to a fan on Xbox One’s Reddit Page asking whether they’d be able to party chat with their Xbox 360 friend on an Xbox One.

“The Xbox One uses an all new wide bandwidth (read: better voice quality) CODEC, so I doubt they are compatible.”

Larry later said that a 180 on this one is still possible, stating: “Again, this may change..I need to check.”

So although it seems unlikely, you never know these days with Xbox One. Anything is possible.
