Yes, Assassin’s Creed games may be coming in yearly, but that’s not to say Ubisoft hasn’t envisioned a day when the beloved franchise will come to an end.
Speaking to Eurogamer, Assassin’s Creed 4 game director Ashraf Ismail said that they have multiple teams working on the franchise at Ubisoft, and one of the things they’ve actually already partially crafted is how the franchise, on a whole, should end.
He made clear, however, that there’s still room for a lot more iterations before judgement day arrives, of course.
“We have multiple development teams, then we have the brand team that sits on top and is filled with writers and designers concerned with the series’ overall arc,” Ismail said. “So there is an overall arc, and each iteration has its place inside this.”
He added: “We have an idea of where the end is, what the end is. But of course Yves [Guillemot, Ubisoft, Ubisoft CEO and chairman] announced we are a yearly title, we ship one game a year. So depending on the setting, depending on what fans want, we’ve given ourselves room to fit more in this arc. But there is an end.”
Assassin’s Creed IV sees a release on October 29th in the U.S. and on the 1st of November in Europe.
